Here is The Sad Truth About Rotisserie Chickens

According to animal welfare advocates, the chickens used by Costco are kept in deplorable conditions…

  1. They have NO access to the outdoors, fresh air, or sunshine
  2. They’re fed a cheap diet of grain & chicken by-products (which means chickens EATING chickens… not pretty)
  3. They’ve been selectively bred for huge breasts (which makes them so top-heavy, many can’t even stand up)

No matter how good those chickens taste, this is a situation you just can’t feel good about.

I love meat, but are you aware that Poultry Abuse is a Major Issue Nationwide?

Sadly, the worst part is that it’s not only Costco that gets their chickens this way…

Did you know that most poultry in the US is raised in these same horrifying conditions?

It’s highly likely that the rotisserie chicken you bought at your neighborhood grocery store came from similar factory farms. Even “natural” stores may be buying this kind of rotisserie chicken and selling it to you.

We think we’re benefitting because the meat is cheaper… but not only is it inhumane, it’s actually LESS healthy!

Here’s how…….Chickens raised in these conditions produce meat with more inflammatory Omega-6s and fewer beneficial Omega-3s.

What about going Vegan?

Well, this could be an option for you. But I was vegan for 10 years and they were the sickest years of my life. It can be an excellent, short-term, therapeutic nutritional plan, but long term you’ll develop deficiencies.

So then you may be asking…….How to Stop Animal Injustice (without going vegan!)

I have a 3-part solution for you.

There is a way we can be ethical, sustainable meat consumers…

Step #1: Stop Eating the Conventional Bad Stuff

Bottom line, we have to put our money where our mouth is and stop buying from inhumane meat producers.

Your health is worth it! Not only are avoiding inflammatory meat but hormones and antibiotics as well. These disrupt your own endocrine and immune system and can cause real health issues that your doctor may not understand how to identify properly.

Step #2: Support Organic Farmers Doing It Right

Don’t forget – there are GREAT farmers out there raising poultry the old-fashioned way!

These happy, healthy birds have access to land to roam, grubs to forage, and a safe, warm coop for shelter at night.

This meat may cost slightly more – but it tastes better and has more nutrients.

Being an informed consumer and putting your money where your mouth is (literally), with every bite, you’re supporting the expansion and growth of these ethical farms!

Step #3 Meatless Monday! That’s right, take a night off from meat and get creative with plant-based foods.

The United States consumes way too much meat. 16 oz steaks should actually be feeding at least 4 adults!

Too much meat can cause increases in inflammation and digestive issues.

Taking one night off a week from meat also offers you the opportunity to increase variety in what you’re eating, which is better for your immune system and gut health.

You may like it so much that you add another night of healthy plant-based options.

But beware….. those fake meat, vegan products are not sustainably sourced and made. They are highly processed and have a high carbon footprint on the planet.

Rather choose healthy vegetables, roots, nuts, and seeds.

Another caution….. It may be easy just to make a vegan pasta but please consider avoiding those processed starches, even if they are gluten-free. These high-carb, low-protein, low-vegetable dishes spike your blood sugar and give you a low-nutrient, fake “full” feeling.

Remember that when you go food shopping, you’re “voting” with each dollar you spend. Please choose meat from responsible farms that treat their animals with care. Not only is it better for you, but it’s better for the planet and therefore All of Us!

Happy birds, happy farmers, and a happy planet!

This is a Win for us all!
