As viruses continue to spread and flu season is upon us, I thought I’d share some good news!

Those stats may shock some of you. It certainly was a surprise to me. I’m not going to share what the science is saying because it counters what you may be hearing in the news. I’ll save it for another blog.

Immune-Building Lifestyle Hacks

  1. Avoid sugar. Sugar suppresses your immune system for many hours and leaves you vulnerable to infections like viruses and bacteria, aka The Flu or Covid.
  2. Get plenty of sleep and rest. If you’re burning the candle at both ends, you’re asking for trouble. Please stop, love yourself and your family enough to slow down and smell the roses. I want you to be well.
  3. Wash your hands but avoid antibacterial soaps. These remove the healthy bacteria on your skin, those very bacteria that fight off infections. We want to keep those and just get rid of the bad bugs. When you use antibacterial soap you are promoting bacteria to become super strong and overpower your regular defenses.
  4. Get your hands in the dirt and play! Be in nature and ground. Breathe fresh air. Hug a tree.
  5. Avoid foods that damage your gut. Your gut is the throne of your immune function so keep it healthy. These foods include dairy, gluten, soy, corn, MSG, fake sweeteners like NutraSweet, alcohol, soda, sugar, and coffee.
  6. Eat some fermented foods like sauerkraut, coconut keifer, and consider taking some high quality probiotics (professional grade, not corner market store stuff).
  7. Decrease stress by starting a daily practice of meditation for 5-10 minutes, prayer, or journaling work.
