Homemade, Gluten-Free, Keto, Paleo, & Vegan
I love making my own taco spice mix. It’s fresher than store-bought packets. Whether you’re gluten-free, Keto, Paleo, or vegan this spice mix works. It’s equivalent to about 4 packets of the store-bought stuff. You can use it on traditional tacos or add it to a lettuce-wrap. Combine it with taco meat such as ground beef, buffalo, or shredded chicken; or keep it vegan by adding it to zucchini, red peppers, and avocado. The sky is the limit.
ProHealth Tip: buy organic spices whenever possible for this combination, since conventional ones are often irradiated and can have pesticide residues.
Ingredients
- 4 Tablespoons chili powder (which is often a mixture of chilis and other spices) or you can use straight cayenne. Depending on your taste buds you can use 1 Tablespoon of Cayenne and add more if you like it hotter.
- 2 Tablespoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons sea salt
- 2 teaspoons black pepper
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or less if you don’t like it very spicy)
Option:
I love adding organic cacao powder to my chili and taco seasoning to get a mole flavor. Try adding 1 Tablespoon.
Instructions
Combine all the spices above in a glass jar, shake them well to integrate and store in a dry place.
Use 2 Tablespoons per 1 lb of meat or veggies.
Buen Provecho!
