Join us in beautiful Costa Rica for an immersive exploration of your tango body.

In an intimate small-group setting, you'll receive 15 hours of personalized instruction designed to transform the way you move, connect, and dance. Through Tango Inform mat work, technique classes, lead and follow fundamentals, partner and individual movement studies, and guided practicas, you'll have the time and support to explore your dancing in depth.

Our work will focus on anatomical function, sensory awareness, movement patterning, strength, mobility, and release—creating lasting changes in the way your body moves. You'll also leave with exercises and self-practice tools to continue your development long after the retreat.

The Practice

What is Tango Inform?

Tango Inform is a collection of exercises created by Carrie Field to prepare the body specifically for Tango. It is designed as a practice to improve the Tango dancer's ease, grace, and physical confidence.

As a professional modern dancer, Carrie experienced the power of conditioning her body every day for dance. Conditioning the body includes increasing mobility and strength while practicing the movement concepts required in the dance form.

Tango Inform brings that approach directly into Tango, helping dancers develop greater body awareness, efficiency and freedom of movement.

During the retreat we'll explore:

  • Tango Inform mat work
  • Tango technique and movement studies
  • Lead and follow fundamentals
  • Partner work and individual exploration
  • Anatomical function and sensory awareness
  • Strength, mobility and release
  • Guided Tango practicas
  • Tools for continued self-practice at home
The Setting

Finca Aguas Sagradas, Costa Rica

A peaceful riverside sanctuary at the foot of Mount Chirripó, surrounded by forest, flowers, wildlife and flowing water.

Nestled at the foot of Mount Chirripó, the highest peak in Costa Rica, Finca Aguas Sagradas is home to the newly built Tango Temple. The property is filled with fruit trees, flowers, medicinal plants and beautiful birds.

The cooling waters of Río Chirripó flow along the edge of the entire property, offering plenty of places for swimming and sunbathing. The retreat is approximately ten minutes from the Butterfly Sanctuary and twenty minutes from Cloud Bridge National Park, with waterfalls and wildlife all around.

Surrounded by lush forest and the soothing sound of the nearby river, Costa Rica becomes part of the retreat itself—creating the relaxation, rejuvenation and spaciousness needed for deep learning and embodied exploration.

Your Tango Inform Teacher

Meet Carrie Field

Carrie has been teaching Pilates since 1994, Gyrotonics since 1996, and Yoga since 2000. She holds certifications in all three practices, has a B.A. in Dance, and previously worked as a modern dancer.

Carrie received her Master's in Occupational Therapy from the University of New Mexico and currently practices pediatric occupational therapy in the school setting.

She began teaching Tango in Taos, New Mexico, as part of Taos Tango in 2009. The foundation of Tango Inform grew from investigations and feedback from Taos Tango students participating in class labs. Through their feedback and her own dance experience, Carrie cultivated the material that became Tango Inform.

Tango Inform has been featured at Tango Contradiction, the Denver Tango Festival, San Diego Tango Festival, Tucson Tango Festival, Albuquerque Tango Festival, and in Carrie's new home of San Francisco.
